The first written report dates back to 1316. The town is located at an altitude of 171 metres on the border of the Kokořínsko protected landscape area. In the vicinity of the town there are the tourist famous Devil's Heads.

Our village consists of 5 local parts: Nová Ves, Nové Ouholic, Staré Ouholic, Veprek and Miřejovice. There are 1034 inhabitants in the territory. In the village there is a kindergarten, a post office, a library, a grocery store and hospitality facilities. The municipality is run by the municipal office, which provides Czech POINT services.
