The institute is mainly focused on history in the period from the early modern period to the Second World War. It conducts basic research in the field of Czech, Czechoslovak and general history and is part of a network of domestic and foreign scientific, research and higher education institutions.

We run an observatory. We organize shows and provide information about objects in the starry universe. We mainly focus on thematic lectures for primary and secondary schools. We also organise Astronomy Days and thematic lectures four times a year. We run an astronomy club.
Faculty focuses on fisheries, aquaculture, water conservation and complex systems. It consists of the Research Institute of Fisheries and Hydrobiology and the Institute of Aquaculture. The Hydrobiological Station, which was established in 1924 in the building of the former farmhouse by Prof. Karel Schäffern, is a detached workplace of the Faculty of Science. Its establishment was a continuation of Prof. Fritz's "flying" station founded in 1988, which was one of the oldest such stations in Europe.
We are engaged in running an astronomy club. We also offer sky watching for the public and an astronomy club for parents with children. We organize professional seminars and lectures for children and adults.
We provide research on vertebrates at population and community levels. We specialize in evolutionary ecology, biodiversity, applied ecology and medical zoology. We contribute to increasing the level of knowledge and education and to the application of scientific research results in practice.
Offering services in testing, ventilation and occupational hygiene measurement, quality management system and other related activities in the construction industry. We carry out testing of aggregates, soils and ground layers, concrete structures and asphalt mixtures. We provide source assessment of construction materials.
