The first written report dates back to 1748. The village is located at an altitude of 532 metres.

The City Hall provides comprehensive state and local government services for its residents and neighboring municipalities. The local government oversees the development of urban infrastructure, education, culture, and tourism, and annually organizes major national events, such as the famous Chodské slavnosti—the St. Lawrence Fair.
