The first written record dates back to 1312. The village is located at an altitude of 385 metres. The village hosts social events and celebrations.

The City Hall provides comprehensive state and local government services for its residents and neighboring municipalities. The local government oversees the development of urban infrastructure, education, culture, and tourism, and annually organizes major national events, such as the famous Chodské slavnosti—the St. Lawrence Fair.
