The first written report dates back to 1318. The town is situated at an altitude of 281 metres. The town has a castle with a Romanesque rotunda and a town museum. Other sights include the Church of St. Simon and Jude, the Týnec Cultural Centre and the Týnec Railway Station. An interesting feature is the bat colony in the castle tower.
