The first written report dates back to 1213. The town is located at an altitude of 248 metres. The population is 11 904. The cultural monuments include a sculpture of St. John of Nepomuk, a fountain with an eagle, the town fortifications, the Marian Column and the Minorite Monastery.

Issuance of decisions on granting a concession, on suspension of trade. Maintenance of the trade register. Issuance of trade licenses, including changes thereto, decision-making on the cancellation of trade licenses and on the suspension of trades.

Providing construction and legal services for the city. The Department prepares the zoning plan and records amendments thereto, prepares the historic core regulatory plan, issues zoning permits, building permits, occupancy permits and change of use decisions for structures, and authorizes landscaping and removal of structures.

Maintenance of the vehicle register, performance of state professional supervision in road transport, administration of the agenda concerning driving schools and traffic offences. The Department conducts administrative proceedings, handles traffic offences not resolved by the police at the scene of the offence, authorises special use of Class II and Class III roads.

Providing environmental protection. The Department issues building permits for water management structures (water supply systems, sewage systems, wells, wastewater treatment plants, small hydroelectric power plants), issues consent for constructions or activities in terms of the Water Act, deals with flood protection and issues fishing licences.

Manage the city's economy. The Department enters into Housing Development Fund loan agreements on a competitive basis, enters into mortgage agreements including proposals for entry into the Land Registry for the purpose of guaranteeing the Housing Development Fund loan.

Care for disabled citizens and social protection of children. We deal with minority issues. We keep records of the city's property in the field of health and social affairs.

The municipal police provide local public order matters.

Providing administration in the field of education, culture and sports. The department handles applications for building interventions on buildings in the city's conservation area and on listed buildings, announces grants for organised cultural youth, registers applications for setting an end to public music production on the territory of the city.

Provision of civil registry and population registration, registration of changes of permanent residence, processing of applications for notification of permanent residence, verification of copies and signatures, processing of changes of names and surnames, arranging marriages, welcoming of citizens and registration of applications for citizenship.

Management of the city's property and property relations. The department deals with transfers of real estate into and out of the ownership of the city, concludes contracts for the establishment of easements, leases and borrows city land, concludes contracts for the use of land, and issues opinions in zoning and construction proceedings.
