The foundation of the cathedral is a Romanesque sanctuary of the Order of German Knights from the beginning of the 13th century, it acquired its present form in the Gothic and later Baroque period. The Baroque style is most evident in the south tower, which is set with an octagonal superstructure ending in a bay with a lantern.
