The church is part of the Franciscan monastery complex and was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. After radical reconstruction in the 17th and 18th centuries, only the perimeter walls of the nave and presbytery survive from the original structure. Extensive repairs were carried out after the 1997 flood.
