Date of foundation of the cemetery is unknown, the oldest tombstone dates back to 1647. The cemetery underwent major repairs between 1701 and 1713, when it was damaged by a major flood. Most of the gravestones date from the 18th and 19th centuries. There is also the grave of the important Rabbi Shah.
