The institute focuses on placental transport of minerals and water, drug informatics, factors influencing drug consumption and effective pharmacotherapy. It conducts research focusing on the molecular pharmacology of metabotropic receptors for the major neurotransmitter glutamate.

Providing instruction in medical ethics or medical psychology and introduction to philosophical issues related to medicine. We provide observation of the psychological preconditions for ethical action and analysis of irrational motives for moral and political attitudes.

We provide undergraduate and postgraduate student teaching in the fields of biology and genetics. The main focus is the diagnosis and study of hereditary diseases including cancer at the gene and chromosomal level in the pre- and postnatal areas.

We provide teaching for postgraduate studies in neuroscience and conduct research activities focusing on membrane properties and functions of glial cells or the origin, mechanisms and pathophysiology of ionic changes in the extracellular space as well as studies in transgenic animals.
