Operation of the building of theoretical institutes of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. The building houses most of the institutes of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine.

We provide instruction in microbiology with a focus on diagnosis and interpretation of laboratory results, differential diagnosis, pathogenicity issues, anti-infective immunology and antimicrobial therapy. We are involved in the diagnosis of bacterial, viral, mycotic and parasitic infections.

We provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in epidemiology with an emphasis on general epidemiology and the application of epidemiologic methods in etiologic research. We are engaged in the development of modern epidemiology textbooks for medical students.

The institute provides teaching of basic immunology and conducts research on systemic vasculitis and aggressive interaction of immune system cells.

Provide instruction in protein and tissue engineering. We carry out research in the preparation of artificial cartilage based on autologous chondrocytes. We are engaged in the development of three-dimensional cell carriers using biodegradable nanofibers.

We provide teaching of biochemistry in undergraduate master's and bachelor's courses and in doctoral courses. We are engaged in scientific research activities focusing on free radical biochemistry, oxidative damage to cells, antioxidant systems and the preparation and use of monoclonal antibodies.

We provide teaching in the field of disability, health and social legislation, health and social care systems or primary prevention of diseases of mass incidence of a non-infectious nature.

We provide teaching for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree programmes in Sociology and Public and Social Policy.

We provide teaching of professional medical language for bachelor or master studies for Czech and foreign students. We are engaged in scientific research activities focusing on the unification of orthography of medical terms, unification of Czech medical terminology and proofreading of translations and publications.

We provide tuition in Political Science at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. We participate in the teaching of the Bachelor's program in Political Science-International Relations. We are engaged in research activities focusing on decentralisation processes or local and regional politics.

We provide teaching for postgraduate studies in neuroscience and conduct research activities focusing on membrane properties and functions of glial cells or the origin, mechanisms and pathophysiology of ionic changes in the extracellular space as well as studies in transgenic animals.

The institute focuses on placental transport of minerals and water, drug informatics, factors influencing drug consumption and effective pharmacotherapy. It conducts research focusing on the molecular pharmacology of metabotropic receptors for the major neurotransmitter glutamate.

We provide tuition in Czech-German studies or German and Austrian studies. We are engaged in scientific research and publishing activities.

We operate a library and information workplace focusing on biomedical disciplines, special fields of paediatrics, nursing and health management. We provide lending, research and reprographic services or internet access.
