The activities of the department consist primarily of teaching assignments in tropical and subtropical areas. It provides teaching in bachelor, master and doctoral degree courses. The scientific research activities of the department are mainly carried out in the form of research grants and student research papers.

The department is concerned with issues of structural and functional properties of agroecosystems, understanding the biophysical influence, studying the impact of agrotechnical practices including their optimization in terms of production and other functions of agroecosystems in order to achieve long-term sustainability of their functions.

Teaching general, analytical, inorganic and organic chemistry, biochemistry and wood chemistry.

The department is dedicated to teaching and research in zoology and fisheries and specialized subjects and research areas related to these fields. Teaching activities include a basic course in zoology and a number of specialised courses.

The main focus of the department is not only to carry out research in the field of agricultural and household development as well as institutional strengthening in tropical areas or poor regions, but also to train professionals able to compete in today's globalized labour market.

Teaching and research in the field of plant protection.

Teaching and research in plant and animal genetics with applications in breeding. The department provides extensive teaching at undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels.

The Department provides teaching of pedological subjects at all faculties of the Czech University of Life Sciences. It focuses on teaching pedology, soil chemistry and physics, soil mapping and soil conservation.

The department provides teaching of special crop production or basics of agricultural production. It contributes to the education of specialists and to the broadening of the profile of graduates by teaching other disciplines with content focused on organic agriculture, alternative agriculture, seed production, hop production or special crops.

The department covers a wide range of subjects in microbiology, biotechnology, pedobiology, animal nutrition and feeding, human nutrition, dietetics with feed science.

Our department is involved in the education of students mainly in the study fields of animal production, breeding, special breeds, hobby breeds, equine breeding, cynology and zoo-rehabilitation and assistance activities with animals.

The department provides teaching of a wide but specialized range of subjects of zoological and hunting nature. The basis of the teaching consists of subjects related to hunting management and zoology. An important research area is the study of the spatial activity of game.

The department covers the area related to primary forest wood processing and mainly includes the field of wood science as the initial discipline of sawmill technology, wood technology for the processing of semi-finished wood products, wood technology.

Teaching in forest establishment and cultivation. The department's research activities include projects affecting, in addition to current forestry problems, the restoration of forest ecosystems in anthropically heavily stressed and degraded conditions, as well as the dynamics of natural and near-natural forest development.
