The foundation was founded by Josef Hlávka in 1904. It supports education, science, culture and art of the Czech nation. Currently, it manages the foundation's assets, mainly in the form of real estate, especially Josef Hlávka's castle in Lužany near Přeštice and the foundation's houses in Prague.

We award the Human Rights Efforts Award to key works, significant projects, initiatives and personalities. We organize various meetings.

We raise monetary, material and other funds to support theatre production.

Our foundation has been caring for children's school and after school activities for over 25 years. Thanks to our project "In Prague we teach children to play sports" over 9000 children a year play sports for free. We also organize an annual charity collection for the Motol Children's Oncology Hospital. Last but not least, we also help children from orphanages.
