We perform analysis of solid samples by laser ablation in conjunction with atomic spectrometry, development of plasma excitation sources for spectrochemical analysis and diagnostics of analytical plasmas. For research we use laser ablation systems, ICP-OES spectrometers, ICP-MS spectrometer and monochromator.

We deal with scientific research on vegetation at the level of organisms, populations, communities or ecosystems. We focus on taxonomy, algology, ecology and physiology of cyanobacteria and algae. We run an institute focusing on the theory and history of Czech literature from the earliest period to the present. We provide basic research on Czech literature in linguistic and territorial delimitation. We focus on literary history, theory of literature, research on literary culture or literary lexicography.

Seminary provides instruction in art history. Teaching specializes in a center for early medieval studies, a research center for the history of Central Europe, or the art and culture of early modern Moravia. We publish the journal Seminars in Art History. We cooperate with galleries or art museums.
