The institute is mainly focused on history in the period from the early modern period to the Second World War. It conducts basic research in the field of Czech, Czechoslovak and general history and is part of a network of domestic and foreign scientific, research and higher education institutions.

We deal with scientific research on vegetation at the level of organisms, populations, communities or ecosystems. We focus on taxonomy, algology, ecology and physiology of cyanobacteria and algae. We have specialized collections for scientific purposes and an analytical laboratory or scientific library.

The department deals with the determination of the chemical composition and structure of substances, develops methods for the analysis of macro and micro objects of various natures. It also specialises in inorganic and organic analyses and bioanalytics or analyses for production processes, in the input, intermediate and output control of raw materials.

We provide research on vertebrates at population and community levels. We specialize in evolutionary ecology, biodiversity, applied ecology and medical zoology. We contribute to increasing the level of knowledge and education and to the application of scientific research results in practice.

Laboratory dedicated to the study of nucleic acid oligonucleotides and the development of new NMR spectroscopy techniques. For research we use Bruker Avance III 300 MHz and 500 MHz FT-NMR spectrometer stands equipped with a BBFO broadband probe.

The department provides teaching in genetics and molecular biology. Specializes in bioethics, cell biology, nucleic acids, anthropology for archaeologists, genetics, molecular cytogenetics or dental anthropology. He conducts research on cell differentiation or molecular microorganisms.

Department preserves cultures of bacteria and fungi for basic and applied research, industrial use, biotechnology and teaching. Research focuses on the taxonomy of Gram-positive and Gram-negative rods or cocci, aquatic hyphomycetes. The collection contains strains of bacteria and filamentous fungi.
