The scientific activity of the institute is focused on monitoring the psychological and social characteristics of children, adolescents and their families. The institute specializes primarily in the lifelong development of school-age children, adolescents and young adults. It addresses behaviour, relationships and communication.

We provide professional services for the development and implementation of national water policy focusing on hydraulics, hydrology, hydrogeology. We are engaged in promoting water protection, flood prevention and waste and packaging management, research on the status, use and changes of aquatic ecosystems and their links in the landscape.

Teaching specializes in a center for early medieval studies, a research center for the history of Central Europe, or the art and culture of early modern Moravia. Conduct research in animal physiology and genetics. We focus on the study of unique characteristics of domestic, wild and laboratory animals. We maintain a laboratory in developmental biology, biochemistry and molecular biology of germ cells, DNA integrity, animal embryology, tumor biology and more.

We specialize in research on social and cultural phenomena related to nations and ethnic groups. Currently, the Institute of Ethnology consists of three research departments (historical ethnology, ethnic studies, ethnomusicology) and a scientific information department.

We are engaged in scientific research in the field of analytical chemistry, in particular research on analytical and bioanalytical micromethods, nanomethods and methods for the determination of trace concentrations of substances and the development of instrumentation as a basis for increasing the knowledge and methodological level of other scientific disciplines.
