Teaching specializes in a center for early medieval studies, a research center for the history of Central Europe, or the art and culture of early modern Moravia. We are engaged in research of the Czech language and its history. We focus on the field of linguistics of text and rhetoric, speech communication or speech acts. We produce spelling rules, dictionaries, phrasebooks, popular science literature and professional publications.

We specialize in research on social and cultural phenomena related to nations and ethnic groups. Currently, the Institute of Ethnology consists of three research departments (historical ethnology, ethnic studies, ethnomusicology) and a scientific information department.
