The first written report dates back to 1521. The village is located at an altitude of 504 metres.

A town of approximately 2300 inhabitants. Part of the territory falls within the Krkonoše National Park. Tourists and families with children can visit a family area with a bobsleigh run, a ski resort, a swimming pool or a golf course. There is a health centre, fire brigade, primary and kindergarten and a post office.
