The chateau was built as a castle in the middle of the 13th century, the extensive Renaissance reconstruction was carried out in the 17th century by the Novohradský family from Kolovrat. The oldest preserved part of the castle is the Vlček Tower. The last major reconstruction was carried out after the extensive fire of the Upper Castle in 1857.

But it is the rooms themselves that are worth seeing, such as the small and large Knights' Hall, the castle chapel or the view from the 31-metre high Rumpál tower.

Gothic Kašperk, founded in 1356 by Charles IV, is the highest royal castle in Bohemia. It offers guided tours (entry with dogs allowed) and a freely accessible courtyard with seating and refreshments. The castle is alive with culture, especially theatre and events.

Its task was to protect the trade route connecting the towns of Sušice and Horažďovice. It is possible to organize wedding ceremonies, concerts, lectures and dramatic performances.

The Baroque chateau has undergone an interesting architectural development that reflects the dramatic history of Horažďovice. During the season you can visit for example: the Great Hall with unique fresco decorations, the chapel, the hunting corridor, the medieval tower, the Empire salon, or the enfilade of rooms with seasonal exhibitions of the Municipal Museum.

The first mention of Hrádek dates back to 1298. The building has undergone a rich architectural development. Elements of Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism are still visible today. The castle grounds include a hotel, restaurant, wellness, chapel, park, adventure golf course and the Hrádek Gallery with an exhibition for children.
