The museum focuses on the history of the town of Stráž pod Ralskem. The permanent exhibition contains many exhibits on the history but also the present of the town. It is mainly devoted to important natives, mining but also to old photographs. Another collection is also parachutists, who are an integral part of the history of the town.

Today, visitors can stroll through the living quarters, furnished with inlaid wood furniture, faience, and porcelain from the 18th century or the Biedermeier period, and let themselves be swept away by the atmosphere of Czech Romanticism and Historicism. The furniture on display evokes the era of the estate’s last owners, the Hartig family of counts.

Exposure of scientific reconstructions of millimetre-sized animals or animals visible only under a microscope in larger-than-life size. In the exhibition you can see ticks, mites or even lice in larger-than-life size and you can even see the world through their eyes. A fun lesson in natural history awaits you.

The museum was renovated in 2023 and opened with a new exhibition. Both historical cribs from the 19th century and contemporary works are on display.

The museum is housed in an architecturally valuable Art Nouveau villa with partially preserved interiors and offers historical and ethnographic exhibitions, the estate of the writer Karolina Světlá, a unique Gothic cabinet with stencil decoration and, in a separate exhibition, the Romanesque-Gothic premises of the former Johannine commandery.
