This interdisciplinary project aims to explore social cleavages and party politics in the post-Ottoman space of the Middle East and North Africa.The position is to be filled at the Institute of Sociology in a team of political scientists. CLOSER also encompasses two other teams: historians working at the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and geographers at Brussels Free University (ULB). Based at the Institute of Sociology, successful candidates will do their research in the framework of the project.Description of the positionSuccessful candidates will be part of the ERC CLOSER team at the IS CAS. During the first year in Prague, they will benefit from a specific interdisciplinary training, together with the PhD students and senior researchers from the three teams of the project. During the second year, they are expected to do field research in the studied country, within an interdisciplinary team of researchers belonging to the project. A part-time position of PR specialist (0.5 FTE) is to be filled within the CLOSER project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC). This interdisciplinary project aims to explore social cleavages and party politics in the post-Ottoman space of the Middle East and North Africa.The position is to be filled at the Institute of Sociology in a team of political scientists. CLOSER also encompasses two other teams: historians working at the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and geographers at Brussels Free University (ULB). A postdoc will also be based at the Institute of International Relations Prague (IIR). Based at the Institute of Sociology, the PR specialist will be responsible for the communication of the whole project, and will also have to work also with the researchers and the communication teams of the four institutions.Description of the positionThe PR specialist willmanage communications for all the events (workshops, symposia, participation in conferences) related to the project (sending invitations; designing communication materials; online and offline promotion);maintain the graphical identity of the project through digital and offline content;manage the website of the project and feed it with new content;manage the project’s newsletter;actively manage the project accounts on various social media (Fediverse, LinkedIn, Owlstown);assure the promotion of all the publications related to the project (academic publications, policy recommendations, interventions in the media);will be the interface between the team members and the media.What we offerGross salary: 27,500 Czech crowns / month (app. 1,100 euros)Expected Start Date: August 1, 2026Duration: 72 months part-time employment (0.5 FTE) (2x 36 months contract)Location: Prague, Czech RepublicApplication Deadline: June 15, 2026Benefits:Working for a European project with a high level of social relevance under a prestigious ERC label.
