The South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice is one of the most important cultural institutions in South Bohemia. It was founded in 1877 as one of the oldest regional museums.

The national cultural monument was designed by architect Adolf Loos and built for the family of František Müller. It houses a study and documentation centre for researchers. The Raumplan space concept was used in the construction. The interior is in the spirit of modern functionalism and classical English style.

The chateau houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the early years of Smetana's work. It also commemorates other composers who were born in the region over the centuries, such as Jan Dismas Zelenka, Josef Leopold Dukát and Josef Suk, or who visited and worked in the region - Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler and others.

The memorial was built in honour of the victims of the Battle of Austerlitz, as intended by the priest and teacher Alois Slovák in fulfilment of his vision to make the centre of the former battlefield. We offer an exhibition that presents the life of the Jewish minority in the West Bohemian border region. The first part of the exposition presents the culture and religion of the Jewish population in the West Bohemian border region. The second part of the exposition is devoted to the life and fate of the sons of Simon Adler. The museum is a branch of the Museum of Sumava Sušice.

We operate a town museum with natural history, ethnography, archaeology, history, art and industry. It is possible to buy various souvenirs as well as specialized literature in the shop.

In the grounds of the national cultural monument Cistercian Abbey Porta Coeli in Předklášteří you will find a museum with permanent exhibitions and short-term exhibitions in the building of the former provost's office. The premises of the monastery church, now the parish church, are open at hourly intervals.

We operate a museum based in Pauline's Court. We have a permanent exhibition Nature and History of Northwest Moravia. The exhibition is installed in 11 halls and presents the history of the Šumperk region and the nature of Šumperk and Jeseniky. In the exposition you can see regional archaeological findings.
