The museum is housed in the baroque building of the original Piarist schools, known as the scene of Alois Jirásek's Philosophical History. Tours of the Renaissance castle. The castle was built between 1568 and 1581 under Vratislav of Pernštejn. The construction was commissioned by the builders Giovanni Battista Aostalli and Ulrico Aostallis, and the decoration of the castle was mainly done by Italian masters. It is possible to organize weddings, cultural and social events.

The castle was founded sometime in the late 13th century during the last Přemyslids' colonization of the still sparsely populated border forest of northeast Bohemia, which was a royal property.
