The faculty offers bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs in engineering and mechanical engineering. The subjects of engineering mechanics, to which the field of elasticity and strength belongs, have always been cultivated there in conjunction with mineral extraction technology.

The faculty offers studies in environmental science, geology, geodesy, mining engineering or applied physics. The faculty includes institutes of physics, geological engineering, geoinformatics, environmental engineering, economics and management systems, surveying and mining surveying.

The SIMLEK Simulation Centre of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava has the same equipment as a real hospital. There is medical equipment and parts of pre-hospital care.

Public university type college, member of the European University Association. Currently offers for study at 3 faculties and 2 institutes of higher education together more than 60 disciplines at bachelor, postgraduate and doctoral level. Selected courses are also taught in English.

More than a thousand students study at the faculty, of which mainly students of master's and doctoral programmes are regularly involved in creative activities and the implementation of their own research activities. The study is carried out in a credit system based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
