We specialize in research on social and cultural phenomena related to nations and ethnic groups. Currently, the Institute of Ethnology consists of three research departments (historical ethnology, ethnic studies, ethnomusicology) and a scientific information department.

We provide basic research on Czech literature in linguistic and territorial delimitation. We focus on literary history, theory of literature, research on literary culture or literary lexicography.
