The main areas of research activity are basic and applied research in the fields of molecular biology, genetics and cell biology.

The Geophysical Institute of the CAS, a scientific public institution, is one of the 54 research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Its focus falls under the Earth Sciences section. The Institute was established as a department of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1953. It is a direct successor of the State Institute of Geophysics, founded in 1920.

The National Film Archive is a state contributory organisation established by the Ministry of Culture. It takes care of the Czech film heritage.

We are engaged in research and development in the field of experimental medicine. We are a centre for basic biomedical research in the Czech Republic, particularly in the fields of cell biology and pathology, neurophysiology, neuropathology, cancer research and molecular embryology.

Conduct research in animal physiology and genetics. We focus on the study of unique characteristics of domestic, wild and laboratory animals. We maintain a laboratory in developmental biology, biochemistry and molecular biology of germ cells, DNA integrity, animal embryology, tumor biology and more.

We are engaged in research in the fields of physiology, biochemistry, genetic microorganisms, molecular microbiology, etc. We also study microbial products and their production.

We are engaged in scientific research on physiological and pathophysiological processes in animals and humans. We focus in the field of cardiovascular physiology and in the study of molecular and cellular mechanisms of physiological functions. Our aim is to deepen the theoretical foundations of human medicine.

Our centre is a joint project of six institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and two faculties of Charles University in Prague. We focus on research and development in the fields of biotechnology and biomedicine.
