SOÚ AV ČR develops sociological theories and methodology of contemporary sociological research. It conducts one-off and repeated empirical surveys, comparative research, case studies, probes and public opinion polls.

The Geophysical Institute of the CAS, a scientific public institution, is one of the 54 research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Its focus falls under the Earth Sciences section. The Institute was established as a department of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1953.
