Jan Palach's birth house with a small garden has seen a lot. It was created here as a place of memory of the person and deed of Jan Palach. The memorial symbolizes self-immolation as a wedge that divided society and deeply affected the fate of his entire family.

The Memorial grounds are a valuable example of early 19th century brick village architecture. The site was often visited by Bedřich Smetana, who composed his opera The Bartered Bride here. The furnishings and monuments, a historic piano, were loaned by the National Museum - Czech Museum of Music from the collections of the Bedřich Smetana Museum.
