The faculty provides education in fire protection and industrial safety in bachelor, master and doctoral programs. The faculty includes the Department of Fire Protection, Occupational and Process Safety, Public Protection and Security Services.

The Department provides teaching in the relevant professional field for all Bachelor's and Master's degree courses at the Faculty. Teaching modern economic and mathematical methods in economic practice and theory. Graduates of the majors can find employment as methodologists, analysts and statisticians at various levels of management.

170 years of tradition, uniqueness in the Czech Republic, promising study programmes integrating technology and engineering together with economic and ecological aspects, the possibility of studying abroad, state-of-the-art equipment, cooperation with industrial practice - all this is the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology.

The planetarium is a part of the Faculty of Mining and Geology of VŠB-TU Ostrava. It offers audiovisual programmes to schools and the general public, consisting of projections of the current night sky and a spherical film projected on the dome. Visitors have the opportunity to look at the sky with astronomical telescopes.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Processes has been reflecting developments in the field of safety engineering for several years.

Offering studies in mining engineering, economics, mineral industry management, waste disposal, information systems management, commercial engineering and environmental engineering.

The faculty offers bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs in engineering and mechanical engineering. The subjects of engineering mechanics, to which the field of elasticity and strength belongs, have always been cultivated there in conjunction with mineral extraction technology.

The department focuses on the knowledge, understanding and management of technological and natural hazards. It carries out research in the field of risk analysis methodology. Provides contract processing for the public sector and private enterprises, and support for teaching in the Faculty of Safety Engineering.

Research and development in the Moravian-Silesian region with a focus on the long-term development of priority fields of their integration into the European research area. Development and research in the fields of nanotechnology, mechatronics, new materials and technologies for their production and environmental technologies.
