The faculty offers studies in environmental science, geology, geodesy, mining engineering or applied physics. The faculty includes institutes of physics, geological engineering, geoinformatics, environmental engineering, economics and management systems, surveying and mining surveying.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Processes has been reflecting developments in the field of safety engineering for several years.

The faculty offers bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs in engineering and mechanical engineering. The subjects of engineering mechanics, to which the field of elasticity and strength belongs, have always been cultivated there in conjunction with mineral extraction technology.

The planetarium is a part of the Faculty of Mining and Geology of VŠB-TU Ostrava. It offers audiovisual programmes to schools and the general public, consisting of projections of the current night sky and a spherical film projected on the dome. Visitors have the opportunity to look at the sky with astronomical telescopes.

Taking care of computer technology at the faculty in terms of hardware and software. Focus on directory services, internetworking, network and multi-user operating systems, SAP information system and its application to teaching. We provide parallel programming and Petri nets.
