The university offers courses of study focusing on veterinary medicine, veterinary hygiene and ecology and pharmacy taught in both Czech and English.

The institute provides credit, elective and recreational physical education instruction. A renovated sports hall is available for all forms of physical education. Students can use the sports facilities either within the elective subject Sport or as members of the University Sports Club of UVPS Brno.

In the field of teaching the history of veterinary medicine, it focuses on the cultural and professional history of veterinary medicine and on ethical issues in the veterinary profession.

The scientific research activity of the institute is focused on the study of the effects of the external environment on the animal organism in relation to their production, reproduction and, above all, their health status.

Offering bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs. Research focuses in the area of monitoring the environmental load of negative factors relevant to plant and animal production, which is related to animal health and the production of safe food of animal origin.

Teaching and study of selected infectious diseases of animals, microbiology and immunology. The scientific research activities of the institute are mainly devoted to the study of infectious diseases of animals transmissible to humans.
