The Duchcov Chateau was built in 1675-1685 by Jan Bedřich of Wallenstein according to the plans of the architect Jean Baptiste Mathey on the site of an older Renaissance Lobkowitz mansion. In 1707, the Baroque chateau was extended by two side wings. Possibility to organize weddings.

Its owner Zacharias of Hradec had the original Gothic castle turned into a Renaissance mansion in the 16th century. The reconstruction took place in two stages under the direction of Italian masters. Already at that time, there was probably a Gothic fortress with a manor house, which was lent to the Austrian nobleman Siegfried Sirotek by the Czech King Wenceslas I in 1249. In the place where the Svratka River bites into the rocky peaks of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, the construction of a massive castle began in the 13th century. The castle still retains its late Gothic to Renaissance appearance. The films The Visitors, How the Princesses Wake and The Devil Knows Why were filmed here.

The chateau was built as a castle in the middle of the 13th century, the extensive Renaissance reconstruction was carried out in the 17th century by the Novohradský family from Kolovrat. The oldest preserved part of the castle is the Vlček Tower. The last major reconstruction was carried out after the extensive fire of the Upper Castle in 1857.
