Teaching the folk culture of the Czech Republic in the context of theoretical and methodological currents in Europe, study of ethno-cultural relations and contexts in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The department prepares future teachers of Czech language and literature. The study focuses on linguistic bohemistics and didactics of the Czech language. It also specialises in 19th and 20th century literature and youth literature, literary criticism, artistic performance, didactics or text interpretation.

Teaching musicology courses such as introduction to musicology, harmony, counterpoint, music analysis, and music paleography. We conduct research in the areas of 16th to 20th century European music history, analysis and editing of 20th century music, and music lexicography.

The institute provides teaching in general linguistic disciplines, general and comparative linguistics. The study focuses on Lithuanian, Finnish, Latvian and Estonian. We provide courses in Japanese culture and society or lectures and seminars on history, literature and religion.
