The institute provides teaching in the field of energetic materials, theory and technology of explosives and safety engineering. Teaching is linked to the scientific and research activities of the institute. Laboratory, computing and testing facilities are available.

The activities of the department are oriented towards applied research in the development, construction and operation of railway vehicles. Research on dynamic properties of railway vehicles and ways of reducing the stresses on the road, research on material properties and their application in the construction of railway vehicles and the manufacture of their components and much more.

The department provides training in transport management, marketing and logistics, transport technology and management, and operational reliability of transport vehicles and infrastructure. Possibility of combined bachelor and master studies.

Teaching and research facilities dealing with the properties of building materials, construction of transport structures, geological and geotechnical influences on transport structures, theory of transport vehicles from the point of view of design, hydraulics, diagnostics, electrical and electrical engineering.

The Institute is a centre for research and teaching in macromolecular chemistry and technology, chemical fibre technology and textile chemistry. It is involved in teaching in bachelor and continuing master and doctoral degree programmes.
