The Geophysical Institute of the CAS, a scientific public institution, is one of the 54 research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Its focus falls under the Earth Sciences section. The Institute was established as a department of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1953. It is a direct successor of the State Institute of Geophysics, founded in 1920.
