Gothic Kašperk, founded in 1356 by Charles IV, is the highest royal castle in Bohemia. It offers guided tours (entry with dogs allowed) and a freely accessible courtyard with seating and refreshments. The castle is alive with culture, especially theatre and events.

Probably in the 1360s, Czech King Přemysl Otakar II took advantage of the dominant hill above the older manor and built a solid stone castle on it to defend the trade route and against the expansion of the neighbouring families of Ronovec and Markvartice.
