The institute provides teaching of prophylactic subjects in the field of M - construction materials engineering. Graduates possess all the appropriate knowledge profiling a civil engineer. They gain an overview of building structures, classical and latest building materials and their applications.

The institute provides teaching mainly of hardware oriented subjects in all degree programmes, i.e. bachelor, master and doctoral programmes. The scientific research activities of the institute include the architecture of technical and software means of embedded systems.

Operation of computer laboratories, local and faculty computer network, servers and information system. We cooperate with the Centre of Computer and Information Services of the BUT and we also participate in a number of activities. We manage electronic mail, websites and virtual studio networks.

The mission of the institute is theoretical training of students in architecture and urban planning. The courses taught are directed towards the fundamentals of architecture with the aim of acquainting students with the spatial, material and form aspects of the essence of architectural work.

The department provides undergraduate, masters and doctoral studies in metallic materials, structural and phase analysis, ceramics and polymers. Possibility of internships or foreign stays or international cooperation. The Institute organises courses for metallographic and mechanical laboratory staff.

The department teaches courses in the Master's degree program in Computer Graphics and Multimedia, which includes in its content the principles of computer graphics and multimedia, speech signal processing, and human-computer communication interfaces.
