The chateau is part of the castle complex. The castle in a spectacular neo-Gothic style of masonry, complemented by an imposing entrance gate, practically doubles the size of the castle grounds.

Already at that time, there was probably a Gothic fortress with a manor house, which was lent to the Austrian nobleman Siegfried Sirotek by the Czech King Wenceslas I in 1249. The old sewage treatment plant is an important document of the history of architecture, technology and water management. It was built between 1901 and 1906 and served until 1967. Today it is a national cultural monument and open to the public. Unique are the preserved working steam engines from 1903.
The Neo-Gothic chateau Hrádek u Nechanic was built in the middle of the 19th century as a summer hunting and representative residence of the Harrach family. It offers tours in the historical exhibition, a quiet walk through the park and the possibility of wedding ceremonies and rentals. There is a café, a souvenir shop and a chateau park.
The Museum was founded in 1891 in connection with preparations for the Czechoslovak Ethnographic Exhibition in Prague. The director of the girls' schools, Jáchym Metelka, was responsible for its establishment.
