The department focuses on the use, design and operation control of machinery. Courses are also developed with an orientation towards construction, landfill and waste management techniques and technologies. Research focuses on precision engineering and technological systems in crop production and waste management.

The department provides teaching of courses in agrochemistry, plant nutrition and fertilization, waste utilization and environmental risks for bachelor, master and doctoral studies. It regularly organises professional seminars on plant nutrition, fertilisation and soil fertility issues.

The department focuses on the field of machinery and technological equipment for livestock breeding, technology and technology for processing agricultural products, technology creating a suitable indoor environment of buildings, food production, related areas of transport, handling, including storage.

The Department provides teaching of basic mathematics courses for all faculties of the CFA. It guarantees teaching in 26 subjects in undergraduate degree programmes. These are both fully basic mathematics courses and follow-up courses.

The department is dedicated to the development of theoretical engineering disciplines and their application in practice. The mission of the department is to teach the basic theoretical technical disciplines, the knowledge of which is essential in the creative work of the engineer-technician. It deals with the solution of technological systems of biomass and biogas utilization.

The Department provides teaching of pedological subjects at all faculties of the Czech University of Life Sciences. It focuses on teaching pedology, soil chemistry and physics, soil mapping and soil conservation.

Teaching and practice of growing crops in a greenhouse. The greenhouses are used for specialized departmental teaching, for student practice, for departmental research and for undergraduate and graduate thesis research. The department also provides various biological material for the needs of various theoretical courses of the faculty.
