The department provides instruction in Czech and world history, auxiliary historical sciences, and archival studies. We offer the opportunity to study Bachelor's degree programs in Czech and Czechoslovak History, History, Latin Language and Culture or follow-up Master's programs.

The theoretical and methodological platform of the Centre's research is a comprehensive research interest in a wide range of visual media, traditionally viewed through the lens of separate scientific disciplines. The Centre's guiding research approach is an interdisciplinary form of research.

The department provides training in special education for future kindergarten teachers and educators. We offer the opportunity to study both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Special Education.

The Centre profiles itself as a research institution of the Departments of Education for Citizenship and Music Education of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ostrava and develops one of the priority directions of research at the Faculty of Education under the title: culture - identity - region.

The SIMLEK Simulation Centre of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava has the same equipment as a real hospital. There is medical equipment and parts of pre-hospital care.
